
Actor Amy-Leigh Hickman, who has starred in Eastenders and CBBC drama Tracey Beaker Returns, told CYP Now, that confidence gained from drama lessons could “help children speak up about things in a way you might not in a PHSE lesson".
"You’re less concerned about being judged.
“When I went to acting classes, I remember thinking it felt different from lessons at school because it gave me that confidence and allowed me to be myself,” she said.
Priyanga Burford, who has starred in Industry and W1A, added that drama encourages young people to develop vital language skills.
“It’s really useful in helping to develop vocabulary so they can articulate what are often quite complicated emotions, particularly where relationships are concerned,” she said.
