Charities set to take on running of Liverpool youth centres; tri-borough arrangements to be reviewed by Labour; and new DCS appointed in Southwark, all in the news today.

Liverpool Council is expected to approve plans to hand over the running of five youth centres to outside organisations. The Liverpool Echo reports that the council wants charities to take over the running of both the centres’ services and buildings as part of efforts to reduce the departments spend by 50 per cent.

The new Labour leadership at Hammersmith & Fulham Council has ordered a review of the "tri-borough" arrangement with Kensington & Chelsea, and Westminster that includes shared children's services. The Evening Standard reports that politicans at the authority want to assess whether the arrangment is working as planned and whether it can be extended to further boroughs to make additional savings.

Southwark Council has appointed David Quirke-Thornton as its new director of children’s and adults services. Quirke-Thornton will join Southwark in the autumn from his role as deputy director, children's and adult services, at Medway Council. He has 20 years experience working in social care for local authorities including Medway and Hertfordshire County Council.
