
Two people have been bailed after being arrested in London for conspiracy to commit female genital mutilation (FGM). The BBC reports that police stopped a 72-year-old Ugandan man who was travelling with an 11-year-old girl at Terminal 4 of Heathrow Airport on Friday morning after the pair arrived that morning on a flight from Kampala, Uganda. A 40-year-old woman, was arrested in Hackney, east London, on Saturday. The girl, a UK citizen, has been placed into the care of social services.
An improvement notice on Walsall Council's children's services department has been lifted. The BBC reports that the notice was imposed by the Department for Education in November 2012 after Ofsted found vulnerable children in the area were being placed at "potential risk of harm". The removal of the notice follows a further Ofsted inspection in July last year.
Bradford Council is consulting on plans to streamline the management of 41 children’s centres. The Bradford Telegraph and Argus reports that the council wants to re-organise the centres into clusters, with staff working across a range of sites.
A survey of local authorities has found that a third of expanding primary schools are building new classrooms on playgrounds and sports fields, leaving pupils with less space to play. The survey by the Times Educational Supplement found that 335 of the 957 expanding primary schools are losing outdoor space to new buildings, reports the BBC.
