
Education Secretary Michael Gove may curtail plans to extend the free childcare entitlement to more disadvantaged two-year-olds in 2014, The Guardian reports. The newspaper says that Gove has clashed with Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg over plans to halt the expansion, which would save the government £380m.
A quarter of children in residential care in England were living in homes that are rated adequate or inadequate on 31 December 2012, the BBC’s Panorama programme has found.
The average under 30 in the UK will spend 2.3 years out of work, according to a report by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). The Telegraph reports that the OECD said the forthcoming increase in the school leaving age would not help to solve the problem.
