Youth minister says unemployed youth lack 'grit', study finds behavioural issues result in lower GCSE grades and Wokingham to cut youth services, all in the news today.

Nick Hurd, the government minister responsible for youth policy, has caused controversy after suggesting that young people lack the "grit and character" to get a job. The Mirror reports that Hurd said some jobless young people did not have the “self-control” needed to find work.

Research carried out by the University of Nottingham and University of Bristol has found that three-year-olds who display hyperactivity, inattention and conduct problems do worse in their GCSEs. The findings coincide with this year's GCSE results, which, the BBC reports, show that the proportion of young people getting top marks has fallen for the second year in a row.
