Daily roundup: Early years professionals, Tia Sharp serious case review and outdoor spaces at schools

The 10,000th early years professional qualifies, a serious case review is ordered into Tia Sharp, and concerns raised over new outdoor space rules for schools, all in the news roundup today.

There are now 10,000 graduate-level early years professionals in England, the government has announced. The Early Years Professional Status programme was created in 2007 and helps people get the skills they need to become leaders in early education settings. Nafeesah Rafiq of Leicester (pictured) is the 10,000th person to achieve the status.

Merton Council is to launch a serious case review into the death of 12-year-old Tia Sharp. The council’s chief executive Ged Curran said the Local Safeguarding Children Board, police, social care and health services will work together to establish whether any lessons can be learned. Tia was reported missing on August 3 and her body was discovered by police in the loft of her grandmother's house in New Addington, south London, a week later.
