Changes to the adoption system designed to ensure more children get a stable, loving home without delay will come into force in July, the government has announced. The package of measures, legislated for through the Children and Families Act, include allowing approved adopters to actively search the adoption register, and placing a mandatory requirement on all councils to tell prospective adopters about their entitlements.

Child protection services in Southampton failed to act on reports a father subjected his children to physical and sexual abuse for more than a year, a report has found. The Southampton Daily Echo reports that a serious case review into the case of a father and his seven children found a catalogue of failures.
