
Sajid Javid has been appointed the new Home Secretary following Amber Rudd's resignation on Sunday over the Windrush scandal, the BBC reports. Javid, Conservative MP for Bromsgrove, had been the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government since 2016. His replacement there by former immigration minister James Brokenshire.
The Scottish government has announced a new funding package to cover the expansion of 30 hours of free childcare. By 2021/22, £990m a year will be spent on early learning and childcare, more than double the current spending rate. An extra £476m in capital funding will also be provided over the next four years.
Andrew Bunyan has been appointed as the new interim chief executive at Slough Children's Services Trust. Bunyan has worked as both a director of children's services and as a local authority deputy chief executive, with previous roles in Leicestershire, Leicester City, Derby City and in Norfolk. He replaces Nicola Clemo, who announced she was stepping down in February.
A school's proposals to adopt a four-and-a-half day week to prevent staff "burning out" have been scrapped. Head teacher Jacqui Johnson had suggested closing Ashby Fields Primary in Daventry after lunch on a Friday. A consultation had been due to run until Friday but a statement from the school said it has "decided not to pursue the proposals", the BBC reports.
