
The UK's Methodist Church has apologised for failing to protect children and adults after an independent inquiry uncovered nearly 2,000 reports of abuse dating back to the 1950s, including 914 reports of sexual abuse. The Telegraph reports that the church has pledged to introduce stronger safeguarding procedures.
Waltham Forest Council has been accused of racism after asking primary school children to fill in a “counter extremism” questionnaire. The Telegraph reports that children as young as nine have been asked detailed questions about their beliefs. Critics say it includes several leading statements aimed at Muslim children.
All council-run youth centres in Brent could be closed following a council decision to cut £1m in youth services. The Brent & Kilburn Times reports that the council is considering fresh closures as it now has only £400,000 to support four youth centres and 300 youth service providers.
Parents and teachers have hit out at a council decision to stop a school transport service for disabled children who attend Orchard Special School In Oldbury in the West Midlands. The Express & Star reports that Sandwell Council has blamed the decision on government cuts.
Police in Sheffield have teamed up with a bus firm to help tackle child sexual exploitation (CSE). The Rotherham Star reports that the Spot the Signs scheme will see South Yorkshire Police provide drivers at First Bus with training to spot signs of CSE.
Children’s continence charity Eric has appointed a new chief executive. Juliette Randall replaces David Derbyshire, who had been acting as interim chief executive at Eric since September 2014.
