
The Duke of Edinburgh entertained young people in the grounds of Buckingham Palace as part of an event to mark the 70th anniversary of his patronage of London Youth. More than 250 people attended the event with a number of London Youth supporters and youth workers, as well as young people from more than 30 community and youth organisations across London.
The first hearing in the Scottish child abuse inquiry has heard apologies from organisations which ran children's homes around the country. The BBC reports the inquiry, which is being chaired by Lady Smith, is looking in detail at historical abuse of children in residential care. More than 60 institutions, including several top private schools and church bodies, are being investigated.
Staff from Reading Borough Council's children's services will be made redundant if members approve a series of changes next week. Get Reading reports that plans to close several children's centres are expected to be approved at a meeting of the adult, children's and education committee, on Tuesday.
Charity Depaul has opened a new centre to tackle youth homelessness. The Big Issue reports that the centre, based near London Bridge is described as a "haven for young people facing homelessness who need a safe place to find help in an emergency".
Parents who allow children to use iPads unsupervised can put them at risk of sexual abuse, the NSPCC has said. The Telegraph reports statistics obtained by the charity that around 15 children every day are being exposed to cyber sex crimes.
