Warnings of an escalating health crisis among children; only a fraction of CSE victims seeking help; and Staffordshire Police launches specialist safeguarding team, all in the news today.

The Royal College of Nursing (RCN) has warned of an "escalating health crisis", and emphasised the importance of school nurses to improve children's health. The Guardian reports that school nurses can help with obesity, mental health and disability among children.


Fewer than 100 of the estimated 1,400 victims of child sexual exploitation (CSE) in Rotherham have sought help, according to a lawyer working with some of the victims. The BBC reports that the lawyer, David Greenwood, said a "radical change" is needed for more victims to come forward.


Staffordshire Police has launched a new team of specialists, including officers and digital forensics staff, to safeguard children. The Staffordshire Newsletter reports that Operation Safenet aims to protect children by detecting abuse and prosecuting offenders for the possession and distribution of indecent images.


Northamptonshire County Council’s children’s services were the subject of 52 complaints to a government watchdog in the last year, a report has revealed. The Northamptonshire Telegraph reports that the county council received the sixth highest number of complaints relating to its children’s services in 2014/15.


Dozens of school pupils in Glasgow have been arrested in connection with a sex crime in the past year, it has emerged. The Evening Times reports rape, sexual assaults, indecent assaults and assault with intent to rape were among the charges levelled against more than 70 children.
