
Shadow childcare minister Jenny Chapman visited a nursery in her constituency of Darlington as part of National Day Nurseries Association's (NDNA) Healthy Body Happy Me campaign to promote healthy lifestyles. The campaign covers issues including healthy food, dancing, playing outdoors and hygiene.
The variation in outcomes of GCSE results in schools and colleges are not affected by the proportion of children on free school meals, the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual) has found. The body found that the proportion of pupils with English as an additional language also did not affect differences in exam results.

A 17-year-old who drowned in an east London canal “could still be alive” because there was “enough time to save him”, an inquest has heard. The London Evening Standard reports Jack Susianta from Hackney died after getting into the canal after being pursued by police on 29 July last year. Dog walker Kamila Grabowska said he seemed “stressed” and an officer did not enter the water until he had fully submerged.?

A National Union of Students debate on anti-Semitism has been criticised by politicians after it heard arguments against commemorating the Holocaust. The Independent reports John Mann, Labour MP for Bassetlaw, described how some delegates’ comments were “inappropriate, offensive, and point to a disturbing wider ignorance about anti-Semitism” within the union.?
