
A government-commissioned investigation into how to train teachers to tackle poor pupil behaviour will be expanded to look at the use of mobile phones and other devices in schools. The Department for Education said former teacher Tom Bennett, who is leading a review into how initial training prepares teachers for tackling low-level disruption in class, will have his brief widened to assess all of the challenges of managing classroom behaviour.
Around half of children have been bullied, and bullying is most likely to take place in school, a survey has found. The Guardian reports that 80 per cent of children had told someone about being bullied, but only a quarter who said their school had an anti-bullying policy thought it was working.
Almost 300 children in Surrey are, or have been, at risk of child sexual exploitation (CSE), according to an Oftsed report. Get Surrey reports that Surrey Council is working on recommendations following the Ofsted inspection, which stated that 293 children in the county are, or were, at risk of CSE.
Around 250 children from Cardiff are being housed outside of the city due to a shortage in foster carers. Wales Online reports that Cardiff Council will launch a campaign next week to recruit carers to fill the gap.
An inquiry into the provision of play opportunities for children aged five and under with multiple needs has been launched. Carried out by deafblind charity Sense, the inquiry is calling for evidence from parents, specialists and practitioners with the inquiry report likely to be published early next year.
Campaigning charity Grandparents Plus has appointed Lucy Peake as its new chief executive. Peake, former Fostering Network development director, will take up her position later this month at the charity that champions grandparents' and kinship carers' rights.
