Daily roundup 4 September: CSE, maths and asylum-seekers

Internet company representatives meet to tackle CSE; new maths lessons beginning this week; and a centre reopens for asylum-seeking children, all in the news today.

Representatives from internet companies including Google and Facebook will meet today to share techniques of keeping children safe online. The government reports that the two-day summit will hear from industry chiefs on the progress made since last December's summit to tackle online CSE.


A new business-based maths course called "core maths" will start in schools this week. The government reports that pupils will be taught to apply maths skills to practical situations, including lessons on calculating interest and the best exchange rates.


A former reception centre in Kent has been reopened, and is being prepared to accept around 40 unaccompanied asylum-seeking children. ITV reports that the plans are aimed at easing pressures on the council's main centre.
