ASWP status is currently being piloted in children's services and is open to all local authorities in England.
An introduction to ASWP status
The ASWP status aims to make a difference to the lives of children and young people by:
- Encouraging excellent social workers to remain on the frontline
- Promoting standards to which other social workers can aspire
- Strengthening professional leadership
- Enabling employers to identify staff capable of greater autonomy in order to deploy them flexibly to meet local needs
ASWP status is part of a wider social work programme at CWDC that aims to support employers to address issues of recruitment, retention and reform. In developing this status CWDC has worked in partnership with key stakeholders including social workers and social work managers based in a variety of settings. The status is sufficiently flexible to facilitate local determination of how Advanced Social Work Professionals should be deployed.
Getting involved in ASWP status
Assessment preparation sessions aiming to develop understanding of the ASWP assessment process are being delivered until March. These sessions are suitable for:
- Candidates nominated for the ASWP status assessment
- Candidates' line managers or supervisors
ASWP key contacts and workforce development colleagues may also find this session useful.
