Custody: Girl wins right to suitable home

Local authorities will have to support children who come out of custody without a home to go to, the Court of Appeal has ruled.

The court heard the case of a girl serving a detention and trainingorder, where half the sentence is served in custody and half in thecommunity under supervision.

The girl's parents rejected her and responsibility went to the localauthority. When the local authority failed to provide accommodation, thegirl took her case to the Howard League for Penal Reform.
