The project, called Inside Out, is funded by the Association of London Government's community safety and crime-reduction fund, and will begin in Haringey.
The Peace Alliance will work with local agencies, youth offending teams and Connexions to identify young people for the visits. Volunteers with experience of the prison system are also being sought from the voluntary and statutory sectors to mentor the young people through one-to-one sessions and workshops on the experience of "life inside".
Elton Brown, youth project manager at The Peace Alliance, said: "The idea is to show them the whole of the inside of the prison, and let them talk to the inmates. We hope to show what it is really like."
He added: "We will provide a bespoke programme, offering one-to-one mentoring and personal development for young people at risk of offending."
The project is likely to roll out to neighbouring boroughs, such as Hackney and Tottenham, along with other prisons including Feltham Young Offender Institution. The programme will also tackle issues such as community divisions.
