Seven-year-old Sarah's dad had always told her that she was his princess. He said the things they did when they were alone together should be their secret. Sarah kept her dad's secret for a long time; the sexual abuse took two years to be discovered. It was a further two years, after a police investigation and a court case, before Sarah and her family were ready to seek help from the charity Children 1st, which runs a children and families counselling project that helps children recover from the affects of abuse.
Project manager June Welsh remembers when Sarah first came to the charity.
