Council volunteer plan unveiled by V

1 min read Youth Work
A multi-million pound national scheme to get young people volunteering full-time in children's services is to be launched in January, CYP Now can reveal.

The scheme, being developed by volunteering charity v, will see 16- to 25-year-olds volunteering full-time for 44 weeks in local authority children's services throughout England. At least half the young people will be not in employment, education or training.

The charity will offer volunteering opportunities in children's services such as play, Connexions, youth clubs and projects that help disabled children.

The volunteering will lead to a recognised qualification and on completion the young people will get a grant of £1,500 to help them move into work.

A pilot of the project kicks off in January with 200 young people volunteering in 20 local authorities. Following the pilot, v intends to launch the scheme across England in autumn 2009.
