Consulting with children and young people

It can be difficult for children and young people across the UK to get their voices heard. Sue Learner looks at how the UK's four Children's Commissioners in particular protect their interests and consult with them.

The Children's Commissioner for England is Sir Al Aynsley-Green. There has been criticism that the powers of England's commissioner are the weakest in the UK since he cannot intervene in cases involving individual children.

The Children's Rights Alliance for England lobbies government and others in power to listen to children and young people and respect their rights.

In England, there is also the children's rights director at Ofsted, Roger Morgan. His job is to listen to children and young people, such as foster children who live away from home, to make sure they have a say about issues relating to their care. SCOTLAND
