Consultation on Child Protection Guidance

What is it all about? The General Medical Council (GMC) has produced the draft guidance document Protecting Children and Young People: The Responsibility of All Doctors to help doctors meet the standards expected of them when protecting children from abuse and neglect. The working group that created the guidance has tried to produce clear principles for all doctors, including those who do not routinely treat children.

What are the main points? The guidance gives doctors advice on a range of protection issues, including their duty to identify children at risk of abuse even when only treating adults, and the boundary between parental freedoms and protection concerns.
