The Children's Rights Alliance for England (Crae) is consulting with its members about which laws they would like to see scrapped or introduced to benefit the rights of children and young people. It is hoped that the results of the consultation will strengthen children's rights by influencing the coalition government's proposed Freedom Bill, which is set to restore the country's civil liberties.
Crae is appealing to the government to reinstate children's rights including freedom of expression, freedom of movement, and participation rights in all matters that affect them. As well as listening to its members, Crae wants to hear what children and young people think about laws that have disproportionately affected their rights and freedoms. These include retaining children's data on the National DNA database; the use of antisocial behaviour measures against children; and retaining the parental right to hit children.
