The Government is considering co-locating Connexions and Jobcentre Plus to prevent vulnerable young people falling through cracks in services when they reach 19.
The Social Exclusion Unit will be exploring the possibility over the next few months, through interviews with young people and visits to a number of service providers.
The research is being informed by a Department for Work and Pensions and Department for Education and Skills (DfES) analysis of the effectiveness of co-locating Connexions and Jobcentre Plus offices, based on several case studies.
Also under consideration is the possibility of co-locating Connexions and adult information advice and guidance services, which the DfES plans to rebrand. The research is part of the unit's study into services for vulnerable 16- to 25-year-olds.
