Statistics provided by junior youth minister Maria Eagle in response to a parliamentary question show more than 1.1 million hits on the youth information and advice site in the first quarter of 2006, compared with 508,000 between January and March last year.
The Department for Education and Skills (DfES) attributes the rise to an internet advertising campaign. "Figures have not dipped significantly since the campaign ended at the end of March," said a spokesman.
The web site provides support to 13- to 19-year-olds by email, online advice and text.
The DfES is developing proposals to bring together youth information sites and helplines into an integrated service.
