COMMUNITY: Schools to open their doors for a range of community services

1 min read

The 52.2m Extended Schools project will involve one school in each local education authority being extended to provide a wide range of community services for the local area, including childcare facilities, health and social care, lifelong learning opportunities, parenting support, sports, arts and IT access by 2006.

Baroness Catherine Ashton, school standards minister, announced at the launch: "Extended services, which will help support parents and the community, will also help to raise standards for pupils, especially for rural and disadvantaged areas, to offer a one-stop shop for families and children."

Around 7.6m will be available for 2003-04, 13m for 2004-05 and 31.6m for 2005-06.
