Community cohesion: Young people voice fear of terrorism

One in three young people feel they have been affected by terrorism, according to a UK Youth Parliament poll.

The study of around 300 young people from the East Midlands found a fear of terrorism makes young people more cautious about making friends from different communities.

The UK Youth Parliament and the Association of Chief Police Officers are running a series of debates for young people on the subject, starting with an event at the US Embassy.

Andy Hamflett, chief executive of the youth parliament, said: "Many young people feel terrorism has had a major impact on their lives, but they are afraid to talk about it."
