A UK Youth Parliament (UKYP) survey published today (Friday) found that 94 per cent of young people thought schools were the best environment to discuss terrorism, with 88 per cent feeling that youth centres were a good option.
The survey quizzed more than 1,000 young people aged 11 to 25 and also found that more than 60 per cent do not feel able to discuss terrorism or the prevention of violent extremism with the police.
Usman Nawaz, 18, member of Youth Parliament for Rochdale, said: "Young people have expressed a profound interest in these issues and therefore it is vital they are given a platform to share their experiences, opinions and feelings with their peers and decision makers."
UKYP is running a series of events across the country to give young people the chance to talk about terrorism and preventing violent extremism in safe environments.
