Commissioner's event is snubbed by Barnardo's

Barnardo's, one of the UK's leading children's charities, is refusing to participate in children's commissioner Sir Al Aynsley-Green's "11 Million Takeover" day later this year.

The idea of the day, on 23 November, is to allow children and young people to take over leading organisations and jobs.

But Julian Walker, director of policy and research at Barnardo's, said the charity would not be taking part. Walker said: "I don't think a child could come in off the street into my job or my boss's job any more than they can expect a child to walk into a GP surgery and be a GP for a day."

A spokeswoman for Barnardo's added: "We are committed to participation and although we are not participating at this particular event we wish the day every success."
