Sector gets ready for Takeover Day

1 min read Youth Work
Preliminary figures show fewer organisations will be involved in this year's Takeover Day than last year, although it has won the support of last year's most high-profile abstainer - Barnardo's.

As CYP Now went to press, 400 organisations and more than 5,000 children had officially signed up for the event, which sees children assume the responsibilities of adults for a day in the workplace. This is down on last year's figures, which saw 500 organisations and 10,000 children take part.

But children's charity Barnardo's, an organisation notable by its absence last year, has now opted to take part, despite its view that participation from children is business as usual for it, rather than an annual event.

A spokeswoman for the charity said: "Barnardo's will be using Takeover Day as a way of welcoming children into our offices and giving them a chance to get to know our organisation better. It's also a chance for us to involve them in our work."
