Comment: Positive Activities - Ely youth centre runs talent contest

Young people in Ely, East Cambridgeshire, are being given the opportunity to take part in an X Factor-style talent contest.

The Garage Youth Project is holding auditions over the next three weeks to find performers for the final of its G Factor show at the Lighthouse Centre on 28 April. The contest will be open to dancers as well as singers.

Youth workers from the project have appeared on local radio shows and gone into schools to promote the contest.

John Igoe, lead worker at The Garage Youth Project, said the show aims to make young people aware of local facilities and break down barriers with older residents. "We want to challenge the view that young people are delinquents," he said.
