Mentor UK and Futurebuilders England are developing the Quality Counts standard for drug misuse prevention to help commissioners know they are purchasing services of a good standard.
The code will be awarded to agencies that demonstrate quality standards across the drug prevention and children's services sectors.
According to Andrew Brown, Mentor UK's international partnership manager, most local drug misuse prevention activities are not evaluated and, when they are, the findings are not always disseminated. "Commissioners often don't know whether the services they are purchasing are likely to have an impact," he said. "The processes we are developing will give some assurance for providers and commissioners that what they are getting is going to be effective."
