
I entered the Academy Excellence Awards last year and in July I found out that I’d won the maths category. My prize was a three-week work placement in London at The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC).
I worked on the My2050 game – it is a game that allows people to see how supply and demand of energy needs to change between now and 2050 in order to fulfil the carbon emission levels target.
My first task was composing a letter on behalf of Prime Minister David Cameron, a daunting assignment first thing on a Monday.
I also attended a debate at the Houses of Parliament on fuel poverty and its effects on minority groups. Most of the points raised were ones I had not considered before, but they all made so much sense.
