Childright interview: Children's Legal Centre wins award

1 min read
Professor Carolyn Hamilton, director, The Children's Legal Centre.

Last month, the Children's Legal Centre was the recipient of the prestigious Gandhi Foundation's International Peace Award for its work with vulnerable children in the UK and abroad.

- Can you tell us a bit about the award?

The Award from the Gandhi Foundation was for the Children's Legal Centre's work with migrant children, particularly refugee and asylum-seeking children in England and for our girls' support project in Tajikistan.

- What work do you undertake with refugee and asylum-seeking children?

The Children's Legal Centre provides legal advice and representation to refugee and asylum-seeking children in England, whether in families or unaccompanied, in tribunals and at all levels of the court system. The centre also runs the Migrant Children's Project, which aims to improve access to services, such as education, health and social services for refugee and asylum-seeking children, but also for smuggled and trafficked children or undocumented migrants. The project provides detailed guidance and advice on children's rights and entitlements, training and wider campaigning work. The intention of the project is to ensure that groups working with these children are fully equipped to help them.
