ChildRIGHT Ask the Expert: Getting siblings in the same school

1 min read Education Legal

I would like both my children (aged four and six) to attend the same school. As my older child is already attending school, will my younger child automatically be given a place?

Your child will not automatically get a place at the school and you will need to apply to your local authority for them to attend the same school. If there are more applications than places, your application will be considered alongside the school's admissions criteria and places will be allocated in line with this. Siblings are often given priority within these criteria, but this will not always be the case. If your application is unsuccessful, you have a right of appeal against this decision.
