ChildRIGHT Ask the Expert: Child safety orders

1 min read Youth Justice Legal
What is a child safety order?

A child safety order is an early intervention measure used to prevent children under the age of 10 from becoming involved in antisocial behaviour. A court may impose an order when a child under 10 commits an act which, had she or he been aged over 10, would have constituted an offence or where the child has harassed, alarmed or distressed one or more people not of the same household. The order places the child under the supervision of a social worker or a youth offending team member. An order can last up to three months or, in some circumstances, 12 months.
