A contact order is legally binding. However, sometimes the contact arrangements as stated in the order can become difficult in practical terms. This may happen, for example, if one parent moves further away from the other and it takes longer to travel between them to collect the children. Parents may be able to agree new contact details between themselves or with the help of mediation. If this is not possible, it will be necessary to apply to the courts for a variation of the contact order.
