ChildRIGHT Ask the Expert: Parental restrictions during contact time

Can a parent restrict what the other parent is able to do during their contact time?

What a parent does during their contact time is their choice. For example, if the parent wishes to introduce their child to a new partner the other parent cannot restrict this. A parent may only restrict what the other chooses to do during their contact time if the action would place the child in some danger. It would be necessary to go through the courts to enforce this. If the actions are not placing the child in danger, the parents may be able to come to an agreement through mediation that will lessen any concerns.
