Children's Trusts: Children should be involved in plans

Involving children in the development of children's trusts needs more clarity, says research commissioned by the Department for Education and Skills.

The latest report from the National Evaluation of the Children's Fund also says more work is needed on defining the role of the Children's Fund as it is mainstreamed into children's trusts.

Ensuring children and young people are representative of differences in gender, ethnicity, age and socio-economic backgrounds continues to be a challenge to Children's Fund partnerships, says the research.

And some partnerships have not involved children in strategic decision-making processes.

The research stresses that "time, capacity building and resources" are needed for children to participate effectively in Children's Fund strategic and project level processes.
