Children's Services: Plan to shape next decade of services

The move is designed to bring together all aspects of policy affecting children and young people. Three working groups will look at the issues faced by children up to seven, eight- to 13-year-olds, and 14- to 19-year-olds. They will consult experts in the field, as well as young people.

The secretary of state for children, schools and families, Ed Balls, outlined the initiative in a speech to Parliament last week.

He is expected to give further details during an event organised by children's charity NCB today (18 July). A separate 10-year strategy for youth services is expected next week.
