One of Gordon Brown's first moves as Prime Minister was to divide the Department for Education and Skills in two. But will the move improve services for children and young people?
Tom Wylie, chief executive at The National Youth Agency, welcomes the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF), but says it must influence policy across the different departments: "You need clarity about policy in order to move it forward," he says.
"How far will the DCSF influence health policy and mental health issues? How will it influence housing for young people in general and young people leaving home? It's a good idea but I don't think it will be unproblematic."
