Children's Services: Haringey's service head announced

The children's service at Haringey council will be headed up by its former director of education when it launches next month.

Sharon Shoesmith, who has worked in the council's education department for the last two years, was an Ofsted inspector and also deputy director of the Capita partnership with Haringey.

Other appointments on the children's services management team, announced on the fifth anniversary of Victoria Climbie's death, include deputy director Cecilia Hitchen, who is currently assistant director of children and families at Hounslow council.

Janette Karklins, assistant director of quality standards and leadership at Brighton and Hove City Council, will become deputy director of school standards. And David Holmes, currently divisional head for looked-after children in the children's directorate of the Department for Education and Skills, will become deputy director for service delivery and performance.
