In his first speech since he got the job, Al Aynsley-Green said: "There has been blatant ignoring of the human rights of the child." He also asked: "Why is England among the last countries to get a children's commissioner?"
Aynsley-Green was addressing delegates at the annual 4Children conference.
His comments made it clear he is bitterly opposed to previous moves to make his role focus on children's interests rather than their rights.
Speaking afterwards to Children Now, Aynsley-Green revealed he had been inundated with advice from children's professionals since taking up the role. He said: "We've already had a substantial postbag from individuals and from organisations."
