CHILDREN'S PLAY REVIEW: Needy areas will be play priority

1 min read
Children living in disadvantaged areas look set to benefit most from the Government's delayed Children's Play Review, Children Now has learned.

An allocation of £200m through the New Opportunities Fund will go towards improving play areas, but Children's Play Council director Tim Gill, who has been leading the review, admitted that there's "not enough money to do everything".

"You could spend three times that just refurbishing existing fixed-equipment playgrounds," he said. "There has to be a focus - the children most in need."

The results of the review should be published this month. One source told Children Now that the review was likely to be critical of the bidding process for funds, and that it would say that all neighbourhoods should get something without bidding. "This could be contentious and is why it's been held up for so long," said the source.
