Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council's Children and Young People's Strategic Partnership has invited expressions of interest for the role, which will have an annual budget of 50,000 and will mirror the remit of the soon-to-be-appointed English children's commissioner at a local level.
The children and young people's strategic partnership is made up of the youth service, the voluntary sector and primary care trusts. The commissioner will advise and challenge the partnership, represent young people's views and promote awareness of the need for young people to be involved in decision-making.
Peter Davies, locality partnership manager, said: "We hope the post will be run by the voluntary sector and we are looking for interest by individuals or organisations. We want to have a commissioner to speak for young people and to add a specific Sandwell dimension to the role."
