The move means Sure Start Speke will be able to apply for funding toexpand and deliver public services by operating as a self-supportingbusiness, explained development manager Robbie Davison.
Tapered funding for Sure Start means teams across England may have tostart making cutbacks, he added.
"Hundreds, maybe thousands, of jobs are going to go unless peoplerealise that some of the work they have done has value and can be sold,"he said.
"It is about not wasting expertise or losing the community involvementbuilt up over the last five years."
Options the centre will look at include turning its community cafe intoa diner and getting involved in running more play provision.
