The guidance, launched at Children Now's National Children's Centre &Extended School Show, sets out the Government's vision for how healthservices and children's centres should work together.
It emphasises the need for the co-location of services, stating:"Increasingly the Government would expect to see the Child HealthPromotion Programme, maternity, health visiting and other parentingsupport delivered from children's centres, especially in more deprivedareas." However, the guidance does concede that a lack of suitable spaceat centres may prevent such plans.
Sheila Shribman, the national clinical director for children at theDepartment of Health, told Children Now: "It's very important peopleunderstand what we're trying to achieve and how children's policy andhealth policy are linked. It is important to get it right because healthis key to the children's agenda. If we are to achieve the aims of thenational service framework and Every Child Matters, health must workwith children's centres."
