Children's Centres: Course graduate will teach others

One of the first graduates of a new course for children's centre leaders is now helping to deliver the training in London.

Rowland Hill Nursery in Haringey, one of eight regional centres offeringthe new National Professional Qualification in Integrated CentreLeadership, opened its doors last week to its first 30 pupils.

The year-long course is being run by the head of Rowland Hill Nurseryand recent graduate Julie Vaggers, and principal lecturer in leadershipat Middlesex University Elaine Wilmot.

"This is a great opportunity to reflect on your own practice and how youlead," said Vaggers.

She added the course was a chance to learn about the "core values" ofdifferent professions and how to use the expertise of others.

Rowland Hill Nursery is part of the London Consortium which currentlycomprises 62 students and includes Robert Owen Early Years centre inGreenwich, Middlesex University and London Metropolitan University.
