At a heated meeting of the Associate Parliamentary Group for Looked-After Children and Care Leavers last week, children were given the opportunity to tell Moira Gibb about their experiences with social workers and how they want to see the profession improved.
A care leaver now training to be a social worker told the meeting that the social work degree does not provide students with an accurate picture of the job.
She said: "What I have been taught does not reflect the everyday experiences of social workers. It doesn't teach you how to deal with real-life dilemmas. The res-ult is people are coming out of university clueless about what actually goes on."
