Children North East, Newcastle upon Tyne

1 min read Early Years
What does it do? Children North East is a children's charity that provides a range of early years services for children from birth to four years old. The charity has set up a creche service for families living in temporary accommodation. The service has recently been rated outstanding by Ofsted.

How does it work? The creche room offers sessional day care for a maximum of six children. Staff at the creche work with other team members at Hill Court Temporary Housing Complex to ensure that children are cared for while parents have time to attend appointments, interviews, medical visits or go shopping and do general household chores.

What else does it offer? The creche offers "stay and play" sessions to reassure parents who may be reluctant to leave their child for the first time. According to Ofsted, the staff's knowledge of each child in their care is excellent, and regular consultation with parents and other agencies within the complex means they are always looking at areas they can improve on. The key aim for the creche service is to ensure children have a happy time while their parents attempt to deal with their often chaotic domestic situations.
