In September, the rate for answering calls was 75 per cent, whichequates to around 48,000 out of 192,000 not being answered. This marksan improvement on the average of 66 per cent so far this year. Howeverit remains some way off the target of 90 per cent of calls beinganswered by 2011.
The NSPCC, which has run the helpline since 2006, is set to launch aninternet service later this month and a new texting service next year,to improve children's access to help and advice.
Christine Renouf, NSPCC director of helpline services, said the outlookfor children wanting to use the service is getting better but there isstill more work to do.
